WINNEBAGO, Wisconsin | A 32-year-old man from Indiana, United States, walked more than 560 km to meet a 14-year-old girl with whom he planned to have sex.
According to police, Tommy Jenkins left Whitetown, north of Indianapolis, to join the county of Winnebago, Wisconsin.
The man was trapped by an undercover agent from Winnebago, pretending to be a 14-year-old girl named Kylee. He had demanded "sexually explicit photos" before starting his march, according to the New York Daily News.
The US prosecutor's office said Kylee had asked Jenkins many times to join her, but he had rejected the advances before accepting.
During his march, Jenkins continued to "talk sexually explicit conversations with Kylee" and kept him informed of the progress of his march, the authorities added.
Upon his arrival in the county on Thursday, he was arrested and charged with multiple counts, such as using a computer to try to persuade, to incite a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
Tommy Jenkins faces between 10 years in prison and life imprisonment.
