In an interview with CNN, Roger Federer unveiled his program for the spring and summer 2020. And Roland Garros is there, as Wimbledon and the Olympics in particular.

Last Monday, Roger Federer made official his presence at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he dreams of winning his first gold medal in singles (he was crowned in doubles with Stan Wawrinka in 2008 in Beijing). This Thursday, new announcement concerning the 2020 calendar of the Swiss player: it will indeed play Roland-Garros! Absent since 2015, because of injury or choice of calendar, Federer had made his return this year Porte d'Auteuil, and had gone to the semi-finals, before being swept by Rafael Nadal (6-3, 6 -4, 6-2) and the strong wind. The Swiss will therefore take part for the 19th time in his career at the Paris Grand Slam, which he won only once, in 2009. He will of course not go favorite, but it will be for him the opportunity to share new emotions with the French public, who had ovation in every game last spring. It remains to be seen if this appearance in 2020 will be the last of his career, he will be almost 39 years old.

The beginning and end of the season still blurry

In this interview to CNN where he announced his participation in Roland Garros, Roger Federer said he will play "not much" before the second Grand Slam of the season. His presence on other tournaments on clay is very uncertain (he played Madrid and Rome this year). Federer also did not reveal what he would do between the Australian Open and Roland Garros (what about Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami?). " I need time away from all that. I need time with my family, we need a vacation! We need a break, especially if I play the Olympics Says Federer. After Roland-Garros, the current world No. 3 will play his favorite tournament Halle, he has won ten times, then Wimbledon, the Olympic Games (July 25 to August 2), perhaps Cincinnati, and 'US Open. Under contract with the Basel tournament, Federer will then travel to his hometown in October. And then ? He alone knows if he will continue in 2021 …
