MEXICO CITY – Leclerc on pole and Vettel immediately behind: Max Verstappen's penalization projects the Ferraris in the front row of the Mexican GP. The Dutch driver, first after qualifying, was punished because he continued to press on the accelerator despite having been exposed to the yellow flag (a signal that serves to slow down the pilots) after the accident at the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas that had ended violently against the wall. Third will start the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and then Verstappen.

Leclerc focuses on speed, Vettel disappointed

The Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc is aiming for the start, but he fears the Red Bulls, brilliant on the circuit: "We changed the brake balance and we lost something in the last sector. Then I made a mistake and I missed the chance to do the time. It will be important to exploit the speed on the straights ". On the other hand, his teammate Sebastian Vettel was disappointed: "I made a small mistake in the first attempt and then in the second I found the double yellow flag so I couldn't improve. I could have done better. We still had a good weekend and for tomorrow I am confident, even if the race will be very demanding, the best six cars will all start with the averages and it will be interesting to see who will be able to make them last longer ".

Binotto: "Our pilots have slowed down"

He does not speak openly of disqualification for Verstappen, but the Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto, is clear on how to behave in those cases: "With a pilot on the wall it is taken for granted that we should slow down. We always talk about safety and Vettel and Leclerc have raised the foot for the Bottas accident. Not doing it means breaking the rules. Both our pilots were fighting for the pole, everything was on the edge of the cents. There was nothing to do but slow down. "
