A new way to stand out? Essential, the brand founded by Andy Rubin, the father of the Android operating system (which left Google), is preparing a new smartphone. If the Essential PH-1 presented in 2017 was one of the first borderless mobiles on the market, with this new model, the brand intends to popularize a brand new format.

On Twitter, Andy Rubin and the official Essential brand account shared images of this new smartphone, codenamed Project GEM. Indeed, the device has an elongated shape, such as a television remote control. On one of his tweets, Andy Rubin evokes a new interface, for a radically different format. As for the account of Essential, this one writes: "We are working on a new device to reframe your vision of the mobile. We are now at the first trials with our team outside the lab. Looking forward to sharing more in the near future! "

Essential's new smartphone after a first model presented in 2017

So far, Essential has released only one smartphone, the PH-1, whose brand has already stopped production. However, the company continues to update this smartphone released in 2017. Moreover, the device has already been updated to Android 10, while other newer models still use Android 9.

It remains to be seen if this new Essential smartphone and its remote control format will seduce the crowds. But of course, the shape of the device is not the only element to take into account. We can not wait to discover the technical characteristics of this new mobile, as well as those of the camera.
