The former Speaker of the Senate was the subject of controversy when it was learned that the internal party should consider a possible candidacy on his part to allow it.
As a reminder, the "problem" concerning her came from the fact that she does not sit on the "general committee" of the MR, an obsolete body composed in particular of Liberal parliamentarians. However, since the end of the last legislature, Christine Defraigne is more "than" first alderman of the City of Liege.

Last week, despite this uncertainty, Christine Defraigne announced in Free that she had applied.

He remained at the party council, meeting this Monday morning, to approve or not his name. And this is what happened: the Liegeoise who wants to embody the progressive wing of the MR will be able to participate in the internal elections against Denis Ducarme, Georges-Louis Bouchez, Philippe Goffin and Clementine Barzin. Five competitors in total, therefore.

Two activists (Michel Heremans and Michel Sanishvili) had also submitted their candidacy but their file was not retained this Monday morning, as one would expect.

The MR is already considering a second round

The members of the MR are called to pronounce by mail, using a ballot that will be sent by post from October 21 to 23. The counting will take place on November 12th. If a second round is to be organized (this will most likely be the case), the counting will take place on Friday, November 29, afternoon at the MR Headquarters.

A debate bringing together the five candidates and to which all the members are invited will take place Wednesday, October 23 at Namur-Expo, at the initiative of the Young and Senior MR.
