Overcrowding and poorly preserved animals
Among the critical points found, situations of overcrowding in the housing of animals, feed in poor condition, eggs sold for qualities different from those possessed, without traceability or with misleading stamping, held in conditions and unsuitable environments, in some cases in structures abusive. in fact, the use of deposits and packaging structures for eggs has been ascertained, results that have not been surveyed, environments lacking the minimum health, structural and safety requirements for workers, which have led to the application of measures to close or suspend activities against 9 breeding, processing and logistics companies, whose economic value amounts to over 2 million euros. Altogether the disputed violations amount to 130 thousand euros while eggs, chickens and 30 seized feeds have a commercial value of about 185 thousand euros.
From the samples no irregularities
During the inspections – stress the carabinieri – 133 samples of eggs, derived products and environmental matrices were also performed, in order to ascertain the possible use of substances not allowed, not only with reference to pesticides and insecticides, but also to indiscriminate use of antibiotics and medicines, as well as the correct administration of animal feed and water. The results of the laboratory analyzes so far received, equal to 30% of the findings performed in the context of monitoring, have not shown irregularities.
In Arezzo 18 thousand hens in wire nets

Hygienic deficiencies and management irregularities also for 6 companies in Genoa, Florence, Livorno, Pescara and Salerno, while the Nas of Palermo identified a completely abusive deposit and carried out the seizure of 30 tons of feed. In the provinces of Bari and Matera, the Carabinieri seized two abusive structures, 1,600 chicks and 4,000 eggs. In Rome, two farms were identified, the first with no registers of pharmacological treatments and animal handling, the second specialized in online egg sales without providing the consumer with product information. During an inspection at a farm in the province of Bolzano, the Nas of Trento confiscated 1,061 eggs bearing a misprint of the manufacturer's company code.
