From November 7, 2019, the privatization of the Francaise des Jeux will be formally launched. The state will keep only 20% of its shares. And according to the president of the FDJ himself, he estimates recovering more than one billion euros in this case. This opportunity will especially allow many investors and individuals to subscribe to shares from this date until November 20, 2019.

For the French State, this privatization of the FDJ does not mean that it completely disengages from the latter. He will remain majority shareholder and will continue to appoint the company's executives. Moreover, it is necessary to obtain the agreement of the state if one wishes to acquire 10% or more of the actions of the company. In other words, the state will continue to assume its responsibilities at the board level.

A program of asset disposals for growth prospects

The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, affirmed in the Journal du dimanche that the sum obtained in this transfer of shares could be used to debase the State.

The privatization of the FDJ should also make it possible to finance technologies that contribute to the development and jobs of tomorrow. Indeed, some confirmed analysts claim that the range of this kind of operation could amount to 3.5 billion euros. Privatization of the FDJ seems interesting.

Casinos worries over the privatization of the French Games

Since the announcement of the privatization of the FDJ, owners of French casinos supported by mayors of municipalities hosting these same casinos have begun to express their concern.

Casinos fear unbalanced competition in the gambling market. Indeed, last July, Barriere group warned parliamentarians in writing about the possibility that once privatized, the FDJ could install in its network terminals that can be likened to slot machines or other casino games online.

On September 11, 2019, three of the great French casino owners, Barriere, Tranchant and Joa, then asked for a clear explanation of the offer that the FDJ could make after privatization. According to them, the launch of new games close to the "casino games" and in particular slot machines could have a detrimental effect on the casinos' economy, arguing in particular that "French casinos play a large part in the budget of the casinos. local authorities and the state, via direct levy on games, the average in 2018 was 54% of the PBJ, a total amount of 1.25 billion euros paid.

The Ministry of the economy still had to reassure the casino owners by announcing that no offer of this kind of game would be launched online or in the physical sales offices of La Francaise des Jeux.
