Brexit: early voting in December, yes of the opposition

The United Kingdom is preparing for third political elections in four years, the British will probably return to vote between 9 and 12 December. Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn supported the call for new elections, he said yes to Prime Minister Boris Johnson after he said no yesterday.

Corbyn seems to have said yes to the vote after Prime Minister Johnson said yes to the UK exit on January 31, 2020. The fact that the government wiped out the hypothesis no deal convinced the opposition to accept the early polls.

Johnson's motion will be voted on October 29 in the House of Commons, where the debate is currently underway. For the moment the Chamber has approved with 312 votes in favor and 295 votes against an amendment to allow deputies to propose changes to Johnson's motion. The government was opposed, taking a first defeat of the day. The consequences? According to some sources reported by the Guardian, the go-ahead for the amendment (signed by the deputy Stella Creasy) could lead to the sinking of the entire motion of vote, in case a change passes to allow EU citizens to participate in the vote.

The stakes for premieres and adversaries
In concrete terms this is the last possibility that the remainer have, that is those who do not want to leave the EU, to block the farewell route to the block of the 27.

For the prime minister, however, the vote in December is the chance to consolidate his power: Johnson's advisors have in fact told him that the more he remains in the government without a parliamentary majority, the weaker he becomes. Furthermore, it is better for Johnson to clash now with Labor leader Corbyn who does not enjoy great popularity rather than waiting for the vote in the spring and facing a stronger Labor leader.
