New high-level red weather alert so, tomorrow. The bad weather has raged since this morning on eastern Sicily and also the province of Messina has been involved. The municipality of Messina is preparing a new ordinance for the closure of schools of all levels, public and private, for tomorrow.
Many public institutions, in any case, would have remained closed because there are no lessons on Saturdays. The municipal operations center remains active, which monitors the weather and starts the interventions. In San Michele but also in Cataratti there are still those who park the car in the streams despite the recommendations. The preventive measures envisaged by the last order of the mayor are currently being finalized.
It was a rainy night with strong winds in eastern Sicily. A billboard was torn by the wind on the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, at the junction for Rometta. Cloudbursts and flooding have affected various parts of the island, from Trapani to Nyssa. The Lentini-Caltagirone, Siracusa-Modica-Gela-Canicattì, Canicattì-Caltanissetta, Agrigento-Canicattì and Palermo-Trapani lines are closed.
Schools in Catania will also be closed tomorrow. The mayor Salvo Pogliese has arranged it for the second consecutive day after the new hydro-geological and hydraulic risk warning issued by the regional civil protection, with confirmation of the red alert level. The order provides, among other things, for the closure of school buildings of every order and grade for tomorrow and the prohibition of potentially risky public areas such as parks and public gardens, markets and cemeteries. The opening of the Fiera dei Morti in the former fruit and vegetable market of San Giuseppe La Rena is also
postponed to Sunday.
In the southern part of Calabria, instead, the alert has been raised from yellow to orange.
