Thousands of people began Monday a civil disobedience to denounce the decision of the Spanish justice.

At dawn, the tension was palpable in the city, overflown by a helicopter. Many police vans were already protecting potential targets for protesters such as train stations, court buildings and the airport.
For weeks, separatist militants had been preparing their response to the convictions of the Spanish Supreme Court, which they deemed inescapable and had created a platform called "Democratic Tsunami" to organize demonstrations. Nine separatists have been sentenced to nine to thirteen years in prison for their role in securing Catalonia's secession in 2017.

At midday, thousands of people gathered in the Plaza Catalunya in the center of the regional capital. On their banners: "Freedom for political prisoners" or "We will do it again". The procession then headed to the airport to try to block it. Late in the afternoon, the police charged several times.
In the coming days, marches are planned to try to paralyze the region, as well as rallies in several cities, and a general strike is announced for Friday.
