The Twingo that skids, centers the guardrail and catapults the two occupants onto the asphalt. An Audi that steers, hits the car and goes into a spin. A truck that tries to brake and "crumple" that same Audi against the plates. And, in the end, a van coming from behind and can't do anything to avoid one of the bodies.
Hell on Monday afternoon on Milan's eastern ring road, the scene of an accident that involved four vehicles and claimed the lives of two people: a woman of thirty-six, originally from Puglia, and a man of sixty-six, originally from Calabria, but both residents in Brianza.
The tragedy was consumed a few minutes before 4 pm in the section between the junction for the North and the exit of Cascina Gobba, in the piece of road that runs right in front of the San Raffaele. To originate the deadly carom, according to what has been reconstructed so far by the Stradale driven by the commissioner Gabriele Fersini, it would have been just the Twingo, with the 36 year old and the 66 year old on board. The driver – the investigators have not yet managed to figure out who was behind the wheel – would have lost control of the car and would have ended up against the guardrail.
Accident on the bypass, two deaths
In the very violent impact, the two – presumably both without the seat belts worn – were thrown out of the cockpit and ended up on the asphalt. A few meters away came an Audi driven by a 26-year-old who "touched" the Twingo and then spun off before being hit by a truck, which "closed" the car against the right guardrail. A few seconds later – again according to preliminary findings – an Iveco van would have arrived that would have struck the woman, now lifeless on the asphalt.
For the two occupants of the Twingo there was nothing to do: the rescuers of the 118 – arrived with three vehicles and a helicopter – could do nothing but verify the death. The 26-year-old driving the Audi was instead taken to the San Raffaele in a yellow code: he suffered traumas to his chest, knee and shoulder but he will get away with it. Truck and van drivers unharmed.
All the drivers involved were subjected to road police checks and no irregularities emerged. To allow the agents to carry out surveys, the East remained closed for a long time until Lambrate.
