A retiree who wanted to return to work had to persevere for four years before being finally rehired in May, when the shortage of nurses hit all of Quebec.

"I have never heard anything! swear Joane Turgeon, who says he called I do not know how many times. "

In 2015, the nurse retired from the Quebec University Hospital Center (CHUQ).

"Every day I went out with two meals because I knew I was going to stay (overtime). I was 60, I was exhausted from 12, 13 hours of work. "

But the passionate lady of her job wanted to be rehired as a retiree, and to work part-time. Despite the shortage of employees, she was unable to find a position in obstetrics.

"I have never received a phone! They still had all my file, "says one who is now 64 years old.

To be bored, Ms. Turgeon took part in flu vaccination campaigns. Last spring, she launched a final call to the CHUQ.

After four years of retirement, he was finally offered a three-day job at Saint-Francois d'Assise Hospital in Quebec City last May.

In fact, Ms. Turgeon regrets that nobody seemed to have been informed that she wanted to go back to work for years.

"Last summer, they had a hell of a summer! I was here and I was bored, "she says.

"They are all mixed up, I feel that it's too big, admits the dean of his department. I went through the cracks. "

Currently, Ms. Turgeon works three days a week, including every other weekend. She is no longer working overtime.

"I passed age. Sometimes, it would be tempting to say to me: '' they are badly taken, I could stay well ''. But that would shoot me in the foot, I'm going to run out. It's not good for anyone, "she said wisely.

There is no doubt in the head of this resident of Levis that her presence is very useful and appreciated.

As for the "real" retreat, it has no specific goals.

"We never know what tomorrow will be like. It depends on health, energy, she says. But I'm fine. The day when I will not be happy, I will say bye-bye. "
