Last year in November, three gigantic fires in northern and southern California had already ravaged more than 100,000 hectares.

Tens of thousands of Californians are affected Friday, October 11 by an evacuation order in the face of a major fire that broke out in the north of Los Angeles and that made a death according to a first assessment. "About 23,000 homes are affected by these evacuation orders, about 100,000 people"said the police chief of Los Angeles.

The fire, dubbed Saddleridge Fire, which occurred Thursday night, ravaged nearly 2,000 hectares and is uncontrollable, according to firefighters. Fueled by hot winds – characteristics of this state – and dry soil, it burns 300 hectares per hour, said the Fire Chief of the metropolis (LAFD). "The humidity is currently 7%, the winds are 30 to 40 km / h with gusts at 80 km / h, so you can imagine the distance traveled by the flames", he said during a press briefing.

A thousand firefighters were deployed to fight the fire that ravaged the hills surrounding several neighborhoods in the north of the city, where roads were cut. In the north of the state, the US operator PG & E decided Thursday night to make preventive power cuts due to weather forecasts conducive to forest fires. Hundreds of thousands of customers near San Francisco have been deprived of power.

Last year in November, three gigantic fires in northern and southern California had ravaged more than 100,000 hectares. One of them, the "Camp Fire", had made more than 80 dead and virtually scratched the small town of Paradise (20 000 inhabitants). In May, the California Fire Agency concluded that PG & E power lines were the source of the fire.
