It was 3am in the night from Saturday to Sunday when the Rhodanus ship headed for the Bonifacio Bouches, before failing at Cala Longa, with seven people on board."The vessel was due to board the Bonifacio Bays but did not depart in time and continued on its way to the coast despite repeated calls from the Regional Operational Monitoring and Rescue Center (Cross) in Corsica, Pertusato's traffic light and the Italian resort Maddalena for almost 50 minutes ", the Mediterranean Prefecture of the Mediterranean said in a statement.

Means of depollution on site

"No pollution" is not found for the time being, according to authorities. But as a precaution, depollution teams will be sent from the mainland and from Italy.
Cross Med coordinates operations under the aegis of the Mediterranean Prefecture. The situation is being monitored in coordination with the Italian authorities and the ground authorities. The Prefecture of the Sea has arrested the ship and issued a decree prohibiting navigation and all nautical activities within a radius of 1000 yards (meters) around the cargo. The gendarmes are aboard the ship.

The Rhodanus, built in 1998, is currently sailing under the Antigua & Barbuda pavilion. According to the Vessel finder site, which tracks ships in real time, the cargo came from Tarente, in the Apulia region of Italy, and headed for Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, near Marseille.

Already in 2010

As Corsica-Matin points out, this cargo had already encountered difficulties in Porto-Vechio in 2010. As he made his way to the small islands of Budelli and Razzoli, he was on a strong sea. The Sardinian coastguards tried to alert the command but the pilot fell asleep. The worst had been prevented by a change of direction 500 meters before the impact was announced.

The independent movement Core in Front immediately responded on Twitter: "From the environmental point of view, this umpteenth accident must question us about the dangers posed by the intense maritime traffic around Corsica."

For his part, the nationalist Pierre Poggioli regretted:
