The Welsh have completed the unbeaten first phase; they won a bonus against Uruguay (35-13) on Sunday in Kumamoto. The Welsh win gives Australia the second place in Pool D, which faces England in the quarter-finals on 19 October.

The poster of the last two quarter-finals will be determined after the match Japan-Scotland, played in the evening (19:45 local, 12:45 French) in Yokohama. Ireland (Pool A), New Zealand and South Africa (Pool B) are already qualified. The last ticket is played between Japanese and Scots in Kumamoto. The match was confirmed early in the day by the match organizers, after a controversy between Japanese and Scots. The match was announced at 11:00 local time, just over eight hours before kick-off of the match, following a stadium and lawn inspection mission.

The match will be played in Yokohama, a suburb of Tokyo, a zone hit by Typhoon Hagibis that has killed at least 14 people and caused enormous damage.
