Six supporters were questioned following the racist overthrow observed Monday in the stands during the qualifying match for Euro 2020 against England, announced the Bulgarian police Wednesday, adding that the investigation was still ongoing.

Six people are currently detained, three are being investigated, and investigations are continuing to establish the complicity of the others, Sofia police chief Georgy Hadzhiev told reporters, citing the total involvement of 15 individuals.

Thanks to video surveillance at the Vassil-Levski stadium, nine people were identified in a safe manner for sending monkey cries and Nazi signs to black English players.

Fifteen thousand people attended the meeting, lost (6-0) by Bulgaria. The incident triggered an avalanche of reactions from supporters and politicians in the UK and Bulgaria.

Proceedings opened by UEFA

UEFA opened a disciplinary procedure against Bulgaria on Tuesday. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned a vile racism, while his Bulgarian counterpart Boko Borissov pushed the director of the Bulgarian football federation on Tuesday.

In a statement, the head of the Bulgarian national team Krasimir Balakov apologized Tuesday to the players of the team of England and all those who could have felt offended.

The Vassil-Levski stadium was already partially closed for the match due to racist insults during the match against Kosovo in June.
