Three Colombians who survived the hurricane arrived in Cali – Cali – Colombia

Three of the nine Colombians who they were caught in the middle of hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas they arrived at Alfonso Bonilla Aragón Airport, in Palmira, Valle del Cauca.

There are still six Colombians on the island, who are expected to arrive in the country on upcoming flights.

The group of nine Colombians was in Great Guana Cay, one of the two main islands of the Bahamas, when the hurricane passed that affected more than 60 percent of the territory.

Engineer Gustavo Velasco, who led Colombians in construction projects on the island, said it was impressive to be in a place where a hurricane arrives.

The families of Colombians suffered the anguish since the natural phenomenon appeared because they lost all communication with their relatives for three days.

Elena Duque, Velasco's wife, said they were days of anxiety.

Velasco, taking advantage of the fact that he was the only one of the group that spoke English, managed to access a telephone and announced to his relatives in Cali that they were alive but that they needed to leave the place urgently before the devastation in homes and tourist areas.

He said that "The conditions were very critical for the destruction of homes and many people had to be accommodated in small spaces."

Guillermo Rodríguez, another of the Colombians, said they feared their lives would end in that hurricane. "One saw that the house was being destroyed and our fear was that some object or roof would fall on us, "he said.

Another of the travelers would be destined to Pereira and the other would continue to Miami, United States.

Patricia López, a relative of one of the travelers, said it was a week of anguish and prayers.

“We thank you all for praying for us and helping us to return home,” said José Caicedo, one of the travelers.
