The Hyundai 45 Concept is inspired by the past and looks to the future

When last August Hyundai gave us the first clue about its new electric concept, we had the feeling that we were facing a very special project. We are not mistaken, the 45 Concept is an interesting and beautiful concept. This concept plays a very important role for the manufacturer, since it anticipates the direction that the design of its production electric will take.

The somewhat strange name of the concept actually has a fairly simple explanation. It was exactly 45 years ago that Hyundai presented the Pony Coupe Concept, a successful concept designed by ItalDesign that served as inspiration for the DeLorean DMC12 famous for its participation as a time machine in the series of films 'Back to the Future'. When observing photographs of both concepts, the reminiscence on the front is quickly noticed, where the 45 Concept recreates the Pony Coupe Concept grill, with what Hyundai calls “kinetic cube lamp design”.

The name also means one more thing: the 45-degree angles at the front and back, forming "a diamond-shaped silhouette that further declares the design direction of electric futures." The brand also says that the iconic character is marked by the monocoque body, and an aerodynamic and lightweight design inspired by the aircraft of the decade started in 1920 ".

As mentioned earlier, with the new concept, Hyundai is anticipating the design of its future electric production models, but also anticipates future technological developments that may influence its cars in the future.

Among these developments we can name the Camera Monitoring System, basically the replacement of side mirrors with small cameras, which guarantees optimum visibility by using a module that rotates the lens on a small brush to dissipate dirt.

While the exterior of the concept is minimalist and retro in style, the interior is a completely different world. Hyundai's Style Set Free or freed style strategy allows a wide range of customization. According to the company, this strategy is inspired by the world of furniture design. Being an autonomous concept, the front seats can turn to look at other passengers. The info-entertainment system has a projection beam interface, which replaces the central touch screen with a series of smaller screens located along and across the board.
