Damon Severson tied the game at 2-2 with less than a second on the clock in the third period to force overtime and save Canada's game.
There were 4 tenths remaining on the board when the puck crossed the goal line.
Switzerland had twice the lead in the match. Sven Andrighetto broke the ice in the first period on the power play.
A turnaround of the Swiss in their zone allowed Canada to create equality. Pierre-Luc Dubois recovered the record along the line, handed it to Dante Fabbro at the blue line, and Stone deflected the latter's shot behind Leonardo Genoni.
Christoph Bertschy came close to giving the Swiss another goal. In a two-on-one run, he took a pass from Anders Ambuhl and tried to get around a struggling Matt Murray, but the Canadian goalkeeper saved the day.
Nico Hischier succeeded where Bertschy failed. Three seconds from the end of the second period, he scored on the power play to temporarily give the Swiss the lead.
Severson thumped Genoni with a shot from the edge, then in overtime Stone slipped between the Swiss defenders to accept, and redirect from behind, Dubois' pass.
Canada will meet the Czech Republic in the semi-finals on Saturday at 1 pm (EDT). The Czechs had the top 5-1 over the Germans in the quarterfinals.
The other semifinal will pit Russia against Finland at 9:00 am (EDT). The Finns defeated the Swedes 5-4 in overtime, while the Russians defeated the Americans 4-3.
