JACKSONVILLE – After losing incumbent Nick Foles for a clavicle fracture on Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars exchanged a fifth-round pick of the 2020 draft with the Pittsburgh Steelers for quarterback Joshua Dobbs.

Dobbs will be a substitute for Gardner Minshew, the sixth-round pick of this year's Jaguars draft that had a record performance on Sunday in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs after replacing Foles.

Minshew completed his first 13 passes – the most for a rookie quarterback to start his career in the past 40 years, according to Elias Sports Bureau – on his way to finishing 275 yards and two touchdowns. Minshew completed 22 of 25 passes, with one of his incomplete passes bouncing in the hands of Leonard Fournette and being intercepted.

The Steelers selected Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 draft from Tennessee. Dobbs did not play as a rookie, but appeared in five games last season and completed six of 12 passes for 43 yards with an interception.

Foles was scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his broken collarbone and will probably be placed on the list of injured reservations this Monday.

The Jaguars do not have a deadline for the return of Foles, but a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN that Foles is not expected to be out for the rest of the season. In 2017, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers had a similar injury and lost eight games.

If the Jaguars put Foles on the list of injured reservations and designate him to return, he could practice in six weeks, but he could not return to the active squad until two weeks later. That would be in the Jaguars' rest week, so I wouldn't play a game until Week 10 on the visit to the Indianapolis Colts on November 17.

The percentage of Minshew's complete passes (88.0) was the highest in NFL history for a player with at least 15 attempts in his debut. It is also a franchise record in a match between players with at least 25 pass attempts.

Minshew led the Jaguars to field goals in their first two possessions and threw scoring passes to Dede Westbrook and Chris Conley in the 40-26 loss to the Chiefs at TIAA Bank Field.
