The realization of the Frankfurt Motor Show is always prodigal in great news, especially by the great German brands.

But in this past edition, there have been several foreign developments that have had a great attraction.

One of them has been the spectacular presentation of the Hongqi S9, an impressive prototype of Chinese origin with a carbon fiber body, which, by design, equipment and features, has nothing to envy to the supermodels of the major international brands.

The Hongqi S9 is a hybrid hypercar equipped with a turbocharged V8 engine, which together with the electric impellers allows to have a combined power of 1,400 horses. The S9 uses 1.9 seconds to reach 100 kilometers per hour with a stopped start and has a maximum speed of 400 kilometers per hour.

Although Hongqi internationally can become a brand totally unknown or, at least, little publicized, in its country of origin it is very popular. It is a brand dedicated to the manufacture of high-end vehicles, especially saloons, which are generally used by prominent officials of the Chinese communist party.

Hongqi belongs to the powerful China FAW Group, which is one of the most important manufacturers. The group is willing, as is the case with a large part of the automotive brands originating in the Asian giant, to strike a qualitative and quantitative leap, with serious international development plans, thus adding to the global expansion of the Chinese automotive industry .

The Chinese group has hired Giles Taylor, who served as design director for Rolls-Royce Motorcars, in the United Kingdom, where he was one of the leading architects of successful models such as the Phantom VIII limousine and the Cullinan SUV. Taylor is currently the world vice president of design and creative manager for the FAW Group and is in charge of the FAW Advanced Design Center, which is based in Munich.

At a press conference, Xu Liuping, president of FAW, commented that the S9 will begin commercialization in 2021, with a price of around two million euros.
