That is why the Japanese firm decided to launch a third call for review that involves any Honda vehicle manufactured between 2001 and 2014 and verify whether this work was already done or not. To do this, users must enter the web www.autos.honda.com.ar/campanias_de_rellamado and inform the chassis number. The potentially affected models are: Fit (2004-2014), Pilot (2009 to 2011), Legend (2007 to 2009), City (2009 to 2014), Civic (2001 to 2014), CR-V (2003 to 2012), Accord (2001 to 2012) and Stream (2001).
In this regard, Raúl Alonso, After Sales Manager of the company, explained: «In Argentina we have more than 54% of the inflators replaced over a total of 209,000 (affected inflators), so we are looking for that remaining 46%. These vehicles are now held by second or third-party owners, in addition to the territorial mobility that entails and complicates their location, since the range is wide, because they are cars from 2001 to 2014. Therefore, we are actively working with different actions to deepen this awareness campaign and trying to reach more users of the brand to get their attention and to check if car could be affected. What we are looking for is to act in a preventive way, in order to replace the affected inflators and so that the client can continue using the vehicles with total safety. Therefore, in these last months of the year, where many cars are likely to go on the road for vacations, we appeal to check-ups in the Official Services and also include the review of air bag inflators. It should be remembered that this specific revision, as well as the replacement of the inflator (in case it is affected), is totally free and each piece takes between 20 and 40 minutes to be changed, and the customer has all the comforts that each dealer provides for that minimum wait ”.
According to the information provided by the brand and which also affects numerous automakers, the inflators have a potentially dangerous manufacturing failure. Certain chemical components found within them can become unstable and generate excessive pressure at the time of activation and deployment of the airbags under certain conditions of humidity and temperature, which can pose a serious risk to the occupants of the vehicle.
Although in Argentina there has been no incident due to this problem, Honda's objective is to successfully complete and raise awareness among its users about the importance of carrying out this check. For this, various actions have been carried out, such as summer campaigns in provinces where higher levels of temperature and humidity are recorded, such as Chaco, Formosa, Misiones, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Tucumán, together with the sending of emails, phone calls and letters . The biggest difficulty is that many of the affected vehicles were sold, so there is no data on current owners.
