Esoteric pop artist and singer Daniel Johnston died at age 58 as a result of a heart attack.
According to information collected by various media, it was his manager Jeff Tartakov who confirmed that the singer died Tuesday night. Johnston's health had deteriorated a lot in recent years and he was getting in and out of the hospital with increasing frequency.
The artist's last tour took place in 2017 with members of Wilco, Built to Spill and Fugazi acting as his support band. Although many interpreted that as his last tour it was the same singer who denied it.
Johnston's career, although it was never mainstream, touched the lives of many people who idolized him to fanaticism. His debut album «Hi, how are you» of 1983 is considered a founding stone of the indie and among his most professed admirers was for example Kurt Cobain.
