A man killed eight schoolchildren and wounded two others on Monday in Chaoyangpo, a village in central China.
Eight schoolchildren were killed and two others wounded in a village in central China by a man who was arrested, local authorities said Tuesday.
The tragedy occurred Monday at the time of the return of the classes in the village of Chaoyangpo, in the province of Hubei, specified the town hall of the city of Enshi, on which depends the village.
A suspect, a 40-year-old single man from the village, was arrested, the source said. Initial reports, unconfirmed later, indicated that the schoolchildren had been stabbed.
Precedents in 2017 and 2018
Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, where the carrying of firearms is very strictly regulated.
In April 2018, a 28-year-old man killed nine college students with knives in Shaanxi Province (north). He was executed in September of the same year, after having explained to the investigators that he had been the target of ridicule when he himself was a pupil of this establishment.
In January 2017, it was with a kitchen knife that a man had injured 11 children in a nursery school in Guangxi Autonomous Region (south).
