Canadian cinema in Barranquilla and other cities in the country

The best of Canadian cinema comes to Colombia from August 28 to September 4, thanks to Babilla Ciné and the Canadian Embassy in Colombia. The public of Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Manizales, Barranquilla and Pereira, will have the opportunity to enjoy 11 films that expose the cinematic wealth of the second largest nation in the world. The best productions of contemporary Canadian cinema, with a focus on the environment with three films that talk about the mark that humanity leaves on the planet.

The stages

Different alternative rooms in 6 cities receive Cinema Canada 2019, these will be responsible for presenting the program. In Bogotá, the main headquarters will be Cinema Paraíso, together with Cine Tonalá and Cine Colombia Avenida Chile. In Medellín, the stages are the Centro Colombo Americano and Cine Colombia Vizcaya. In Cali, Royal Films Centenario, Cinemateca La Tertulia and Cine Colombia Unicali; in Pereira, the Chamber of Commerce; in Barranquilla, the Cinemateca of the Caribbean; and in Manizales, Red Spiral.

Contemporary cinema

Cinema Canada 2019 presents recent titles that stand out for their multicultural stories, great reception from the public and the acclaim of the jury and critics in the most distinguished film festivals worldwide. One of the novelties of this year is the unpublished film in Colombia, Polytechnique, by the Canadian director and screenwriter Denis Villeneuve, a shocking, sincere and moving fiction based on the attack that took place in Montreal. Vileneuve was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best director for his film Arrival and was three times winner of the Genie Awards for Best Director, one of these thanks to Polytechnique. Among his most renowned films are: Blade Runner 2049, Fire Y The arrival.

In addition, the selection contains other new views of Canadian cinema such as: The natural sugar of the skin (Les salopes ou le sucre natural de la peau) by Reneé Beaulieu; The disappearance of the fireflies (The Disparition des Lucioles) by Sébastien Pilote; Cash Nexus by François Delisle; 1991 by Ricardo Trogi; Y 14 days and 12 nights (14 Jours, 12 Nuits) by Antonello Cozzolino.
