The Turkish international, currently in the Basaksehir of Istanbul, will not have to enter the prison immediately, unless he commits another crime in the next five years, having resigned to appeal the sentence.
The facts judged date back to October 2018, when Turan fought in a discotheque with the popular singer Berkan Sahin, who accused the soccer player of harassing his wife.
The court acquitted Turan of the crime of bullyingbut condemned him for intentional injuries, to break the nose of the singer; by illegal possession of weapons; and for having shot the gun in the hospital Sahin had come after the fight.
During the trial, the player denied the harassment but acknowledged the other facts, although he says the shot was accidental.
"Thank God, Turkish Justice has considered it a shameful defamation," Turan wrote in reference to the absolution of the crime of harassment, in a statement released by NTV.
The Turkish striker, assigned since January 2018 by Barça al Basaksehir of the Turkish Super League, has also denounced Sahin for “defamation”.
In Turkish social networks, numerous users consider the sentence and its suspension as enormously lenient, especially when compared to other, much higher, sentences for crimes of political opinion.
