The Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz has been sentenced by the Court of First Instance number 74 of Madrid to pay 5.4 million euros ($ 5.9 million) for breach of contract to the entity that carried its artistic representation, RLM, S.A.
According to the newspaper El Mundo, society belongs to the well-known manager Rosa Lagarriguewho brought Sanz to trial after 25 years of professional relationship and he claimed about 9 million euros ($ 9.9 million).
The problems between Sanz and Lagarrigue originated after the artist decided in 2016 to break unilaterally the contract he had with the company RLM S.A ..
The Lagarrigue company filed a civil lawsuit and provided documentation in the case that contained a contract that was signed in 2014 and joined both parties until 2019.
After analyzing the facts and the documentation presented, the court condemned Sanz subsidiary to pay the amount referred to his former manager. The sentence concludes that Sanz incurred a intentional breach of the contract when broken unilaterally.
"When we signed Alejandro was very happy. In these last two years we have done many things together. Two tours, television and La Voz. Everything seemed to be going very well.”, The representative told the newspaper El País. The singer's march represented a surprise to Lagarrigue, who said he was not sure what his decision was. "That would have to be asked of him", said.
Lagarrigue is recognized within the Spanish artistic world, since she has worked for other important singers such as Malú, Raphael, Mecano or Miguel Bosé. In his statement he revealed that the civil lawsuit against Sanz had been one of the most unpleasant decisions of his professional career but that he considered he had the right to receive the amount he was claiming.
