US Open: Bianca Andreescu advances to third round defeating Kirsten Flipkens 6-3, 7-5

Bianca Andreescu qualified for the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her young career on Thursday as she defeated Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 6-3, 7-5 at the US Open. United.

Andreescu, seeded 15th, was the top 4-1 at the break, though she gave Seven Flipkens, 110th racket, seven break chances. Andreescu got 10 break points.

The duel was fairly tight, with Andreescu having only a 27-24 advantage over the winning strokes, while both players made 18 unforced errors.

"Honestly, I do not think I played my best game. Flipkens challenged me today. She was changing the pace, and I'm glad I was able to negotiate what she presented to me, "she said in an interview with TSN after the game.

"I feel confident right now. If I play as I can, I can beat anyone right now, "she insisted.

In the next round, Andreescu will face the winner of the match between the 19th seeded Danish Caroline Wozniacki and American Danielle Collins, who leads at the 35th level.

Shapovalov and Pospisil also in action

Denis Shapovalov and his Swiss rival Henri Laaksonen will make their entry around 5 pm. The young southpaw reached the fourth round of the US Open in 2017.

He started his tournament with a convincing win, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 against his compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Finally, the meeting between Vasek Pospisil and the American Tennys Sandgren should be played around 15 pm. Their clash is the fourth of the day on Court 13.

Pospisil caused a huge surprise in the first round by eliminating in five sets the No. 9 seed, the Russian Karen Khachanov.

Petkovic gets paid Kvitova

Andrea Petkovic set the tone for the day by knocking out sixth seed Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-4.

Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has never been able to find her bearings in the field or at the net. She committed 32 unforced errors, and the last occurred while she was facing a match point. The Czech tried a smash that hit the frame of his racket and sent the ball away from the field.
