Last June, the German manufacturer presented the electrified version of its Corsa, but its interior was not yet accessible. We have now been able to discover the cabin of the one that promises to be an electric city car with good potential. We are only a few days away from the Frankfurt Motor Show and yet it is in Paris that the German manufacturer Opel decided to open the doors of his new Corsa to French journalists. Revealed last June at the launch conference – from which we also presented the Corsa video – its interior and its tariffs were still unknown. This Wednesday, August 28 was the opportunity for us to discover what is on board the first 100% electric Opel carwhich will land in France in the course of the year 2020.

German sobriety

Externally, the Corsa-e does not lack character. With its lowered roof height of 48 mm, its paint that can be two-tone and its lines, which make it look good on its wheels, the cocktail is rather successful. Inside, on the other hand, we find it much more … Sage.

If theOpel Corsa-e uses the same CMP platform (Common Modular Platform) that its cousins Peugeot e-208 and DS3 Crossback E-Tense, the philosophy, cockpit side, is very different. While DS is playing with its "haute couture" motifs and Peugeot is indulging in the integration of a 3D virtual screen, Opel remains more conservative. Pity ? The future and, above all, a next test of the vehicle, we will say.

Anyway, the model, exposed for us, hasan advanced multimedia configuration. In particular, it uses the system Multimedia Navi Pro the 10-inch screen replaces the 7-inch screen of the "classic" Navi Multimedia system. The slab of 25 cm diagonal therefore, seems rather good quality. Note that under the glass roof of our photo space, it captures a lot of the reflections of light when taking shots. On the other hand, readability remains good.

Still according to our impressions, we find the screen rather well placed on the dashboard. Again, it will be checked in use, because we know that some manufacturers – including Peugeot and DS for that matter – now tend to position the screens higher to less look away from the road.

Opel does not succumb to any touch and keeps six buttons as well as the volume wheel for direct access to radio, navigation, phone, vehicle settings, application (Android Auto and Car Play compatible) and battery management. On the other hand, as can be seen from the photos, if the "piano black" plastic inserts are pleasing to the eye, they retain fingerprints very well. Please keep a cloth in the glove box.

Between the two seats, the central armrest overlooks an empty-pocket and two cup holders. We find here, especially, the driving mode selector which allows to choose between a behavior economic, normal or sport. Finally, the speed selector takes the same design as that of his cousins at PSA. When the idea is good, why deprive yourself?

Towards the digital world

Behind the wheel, this time it's a 7 inch diagonal screen which displays the instrumentation. Here again, the quality seems suitable, even if at the time of the screens of smartphones OLED, AMOLED and company, one is somewhat challenged by the black not quite black, of this one – attention, the rendering is there again a little amplified by the photo.

The opportunity to remember that we are facing a vehicle that wants to democratize the electric carbut we will come back to it. What we like about this screen is that it suggests the display of practical information. presumably GPS mapping is superimposed just below the speedometer. If the zoom is well managed, it could be practical to use, failing to have a head-up display system. On the other hand, the rectangular 18cm diagonal screen is bordered by two black covers, but which will probably end up being forgotten. Especially since these should disappear on versions of the Corsa that will incorporate a conventional analog meter.

Opel offers an optional induction charger to recharge your mobile compatible without having to go through a USB port. Note also that this Corsa can have three takes : one in the front and two in the back.

Finally, the steering wheel includes all the buttons that will make it possible to use the safety and driver assistance technologies Opel, such as the speed limiter and adaptive cruise control.

Rates and equipment

It is no surprise that the entry price of this Corsa-e is positioned below that of the Peugeot e-208, since we are talking abouta range starting with the Opel Corsa E "Selection" at 29 900 euros against 32 100 euros for "& nbspla lionne". With identical platform, this difference in price could confer an advantage to the Corsa, especially since its endowment in series is rather interesting. As a reminder, these two models are equipped witha 100 kW motor (equivalent to 136 horses) anda battery capacity of 50 kWh, which allows the Corsa to pretend to 330 km of autonomyagainst 340 km for the e-208.

The Corsa-e also comes in " Edition »To 30 650 euros and Corsa-e« First Edition To 33,250 euros. It is in particular on the latter that are proposed in series the two-tone paint and the alloy wheels 17 inches. In our opinion, the "Edition" and "First Edition" versions are the ones that will have to be preferred because the only ones likely to access the three-phase charger which will allow to pass on a load power of 11 kW / h on terminal against 7 kW / h in single phase. Recall that the Corsa-e is compatible with loads on DC terminals whose power of 100 kW can recharge 80% in 30 minutes.

It is already possible to order an Opel Corsa-e but the first copies should not be delivered until spring 2020.
