Performance and interface
Xiaomi Trucks Mi 9T Snapdragon 730 Processor for Snapdragon 855 and marks a major change in this Pro version. The Mi 9T Pro joins the club of the most successful smartphones on the market.
We now know the capabilities of Qualcomm's high-end chip. Daily, the Mi 9T Pro runs like a clock. The 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM ensures fast transitions in multitasking, a must for the most connected users.
Players will also find happiness. The most resource-intensive licenses (Fortnite, PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9) are launched with maximum graphics configurations. We have never encountered problems with fluidity, slowdowns or application crashes. The only small complaint that can be made to Xiaomi is its cooling system. The manufacturer ensures that the 8 layers of graphite prevent the rise of temperatures. In practice, even if the dissipation of the heat remains suitable, a prolonged gaming session can quickly increase the mercury.
Finally, the Mi 9T Pro ships MIUI 10 based on Android 9. The Xiaomi OS is distinguished by the lack of application drawer. This does not prevent it from being among the most complete and most ergonomic interfaces of the moment.
audio
Xiaomi takes the same audio configuration as the Mi 9T is a single speaker placed on the edge bottom of the smartphone. Nothing surprising about a model of this range, although some make the effort to opt for a stereo sound (Google Pixel 3a for example). If the sound coming from the speaker can rise in the decibels, it is at the expense of the overall balance. From a certain volume, treble and midrange are overrepresented and bass too discreet.
Fortunately, in France, users favor listening to music with earphones / headphones. Our test model does not come with the hands-free kit that consumers will find in the box. With third-party headphones, listening is very satisfying. Note also that Xiaomi keeps the 3.5 mm jack, which should delight fans. Wireless technology enthusiasts will appreciate equally good audio quality with Bluetooth accessories. Audiophiles will also find their happiness thanks to aptX HD compatibility. Finally, note the presence of a complete equalizer in the audio settings, a little more always welcome.
Autonomy
Xiaomi does not change a recipe that works. The Mi 9T Pro incorporates a 4000 mAh battery despite the adoption of a Snapdragon 855 processor, more greedy. He cash without flinching two days of standard use (web, social networks, photo, calls, messages, emails). Count a day and a half if you are one of the most connected users.
For example, we took the Mi 9T Pro for a day in an amusement park. It allowed us to shoot most of the photos of the test, to go to our destination (2h30 of road with the GPS) and to orient us on the map of the park. Add to that some messages, some web browsing, a few minutes of video and game queues. It remained 62% of battery to the smartphone after this big day. Impressive.
Xiaomi improves its fast charging system from 18W to 27W. However, the manufacturer continues to provide a charger of 18 W. Despite this (small) disappointment, the charging time remains very good: in 30 minutes the smartphone earns 45% of battery. If some manufacturers do better, this score remains excellent for a smartphone of this range. Finally, like its competitors, the Mi 9T Pro does not include wireless charging.
Camera
Side photo, the Mi 9T Pro improves slightly: the 48 MP Sony IMX 582 sensor from the Mi 9T is replaced by the 48 MP IMX 586, more upscale. The other two sensors and lenses do not change:
- 8 MP with 2x zoom open at f / 2.4
- 13 MP with ultra wide-angle (125 ° field of view) opening at f / 2, 4
There are also all modes of shooting, including different filters, night mode and portrait. In good brightness outside, the pictures are of very good quality with excellent sharpness and realistic colors. The difference with the Mi 9T is hardly noticeable. Portraits, they, gain in precision. In low light, there is a slight improvement, especially when activating the night mode. The Mi 9T Pro, however, remains behind the Google Pixel 3a whose photo is the area of choice.
The new Xiaomi smartphone stands out in video. The integration of Snapdragon 855 allows shooting in 4K at 60 fps without stabilization. The results are rather average, so we advise to shoot in 1080p with stabilization. Or, you can offer yourself a gimbal.
