Three men quickly went on the attack in this stage, the French Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step), the Danish Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and the German Mika Herning (Bike Aid).
The three men counted up to 4 minutes in advance. They were picked up a little less than thirty kilometers from the finish. Under the impetus of Vincenzo Nibali, a new group of fifteen elements was formed before.
Jasper Stuyven tried his luck 3 km from the end. He was joined a little further by Kasper Asgreen. The two men tackled the sprint together, Asgreen was the fastest.
The Italian Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain-Merida) took third place at 17 seconds, ahead of Yves Lampaert (Deceuninck-Quick Step). Jens Keukeleire (Lotto Soudal) was eighth.
General, Stuyven, who dispossessed the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff red jersey, 13 seconds ahead of Colbrelli. Kazakh Alexey Lutsenko is third at 18 seconds, Lampaert follows at 19.
On Sunday, the fourth and final leg will be played between Eisenach and Erfurt. The Tour of Germany, which is the 34th edition, reappeared in the calendar last year. Slovenia's Matej Mohoric won.
