Eating healthy can be expensive while it is recommended to eat five fruits and vegetables a day. The report of the association Rural Families lifts the veil on prices, Tuesday, August 27. Vegetables are 10% more expensive from one year to the next. On the contrary, fruits have seen their prices fall by 4%. In a Parisian market, we exceeded 4 euros for the kilo of tomatoes. "I buy less and buy seasonal fruits and vegetables", says a client.
On average, the kilo of potatoes went from 1.30 € to 1.80 € in one year. As for the weather, the cold snap in the spring and the summer drought were the cause of poor harvests. With these prices, it is difficult for a family of four to eat well. "If this family is at the smic, it will represent up to 18% of its budget"says Dominique Marmier, president of the Rural Families Association.
