Arrived at the indoor swimming pool of Portet-sur-Garonne in September 1981, pool inaugurated a few years ago, Jean-Michel Carrière, 61 years old, his "Crocs" and his red shorts, is a key figure of the place. Today basin chief, he has never left this pool of Muretain, except for an early career in the Paris region and punctually to help the Aqualudia de Muret in peak periods of summer.

With his other three fellow lifeguards, he gives very popular swimming lessons; the children listen to him, and respect him, the grandmas adore him.

Always passionate about pedagogy, it is a pleasure to him to bring the children as adults who are afraid of the water to acquire the control, the autonomy of their body in this element, with the learning of the swimming.

Anti-aquaphobia remedies

He tells us the lessons against aquaphobia: "Some people can swim but are unable to put a foot in the water after a forced swim at a party, or a lifeguard pushed them but forgot to give them the pole. Parents who accompany children or small children to the sea, lake or pool realize that they do not know how to swim, or are paralyzed with the apprehension of depth, the big blue.

It is a learning of the control of the balance on the back where one will float without problem and ventral where it will be necessary to pass the difficulty of putting the face, the mouth and the eyes in the water.

Gradually, by trial and error you learn to adjust your movements to balance and breathe effortlessly.

Immersion is an important step that reflects the person's ease and adaptation to the water. At the beginning, without any material, we help him progress as the sessions progress.

It's never too late to learn: adults or children who are afraid of water can quickly discover the pleasure of swimming and jumping in the water. "

Aquaphobia classes take place on Saturdays at 1:15 pm and last 45 minutes. They start on Saturday, September 21st, until June 2nd, 2020.
