The Crown opposed their release. They will remain in custody and return to court Tuesday for their bail hearing.
The third person formally charged, 27-year-old Jeven Humphrey, is subject to an arrest warrant and is scheduled to appear later.
Humphrey also faces four counts: two assaulting a peace officer and two intimidating someone associated with the justice system.
An alleged accomplice released
One of the alleged accomplices, Tommy Janvier, arrested a few hours after the attack, appeared late this week. He faces a charge of assaulting a peace officer.
The 23-year-old, however, reportedly tried to restrain others from participating in the attack.
He was released Monday morning pending further proceedings.
Violent attack
The assault on the two officers of Neighborhood Station 21 occurred on Saturday at approximately 1:30 am, near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Hubert Streets, in the Center-Sud neighborhood.
The police, two brothers working for the Police Department of the City of Montreal (SPVM), were not on duty at the time of the attack. They were circulating on rue Saint-Denis, where they would have been recognized by people living on a terrace.
Shortly after, people would have gone to the police. A first brutal punch was allegedly thrown at one of them, throwing him to the ground.
His brother tried in vain to intervene. He was himself hit in the face and punched and kicked while he was on the ground.
Both officers suffered serious injuries. One of them lost consciousness.
The attack was filmed by witnesses, and images of the attack were shared on social networks. Among other things, we see the attackers invicit the police.
These recordings could play a determining role in this case.
