Corporal suspected of being linked to far-right group fired

Patrik Mathews, a Canadian Armed Forces member based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, "will no longer be involved in any form of military activity and will not return to work," a spokesman for the ministry said in an email to CBC.

"This action was considered necessary, considering the seriousness of the allegations and the risk to the morale and cohesion of the unit," he added.

Present mainly in the United States, this group promotes hate and its members worship mass killersaccording to Evan Balgord, Executive Director of the Canadian Network Against Hate.

One of The Base's stated goals, he says, is to get his members involved in the military to receive training and then pass it on to other members.

According to the allegations, the corporal helped recruit members for this far-right movement.
