Esperance based its position on the performance of the "bias" in his assessment, in the 2017 final between Wydad and Al Ahli of Egypt, which culminated in his title Wydad victory on home soil for a clean goal after the two teams in Burj Al Arab in Alexandria for a goal.
Esperance also conceded a penalty for their match against Congolese Mazembe in the semi-final of the current Champions League.
Esperance also announced its reservations about the possibility of Zambian referee Gani Sekazwe being appointed for the match against Wydad because of the criticism he faced after managing Esperance and August 1st in the semi-final of the Champions League last year.
Bakari Gassama will be the main referee and will be assisted by Senegalese Djibril Kamara and Malik Hajji Samba, while Gianni Syakazwe will head the team that will lead the assistive referee technique via video "Alfar" during the return match between Esperance and Al-Wadad.
