FIA: the Mercedes DAS will still be banned in 2021 – Formula 1

There International Motoring Federation it quickly moved to ratify some decisions in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic that is gripping the world, ‘freezing’ sports and motorsport competitions. With an electronic vote, the World Motorsport Council approved the changes proposed in the last few days to the regulations already in force.

As for Formula 1, it has been confirmed flexibility requested by the FIA ​​and Liberty Media to better organize the calendar, in order to safeguard the value of the championship as much as possible and that can contribute to containing costs. In article 1.3 of the sports regulation, an addition has been made for which changes to some items can be made with theconsent of 60% of the teams, and will still request confirmation from the World Council. Article 5.5 has been deleted and therefore FIA and Formula 1 will be able to freely modify the 2020 calendar without the vote of the teams.

Tests also modified (article 10.5) e closure of the motorsport department introduced of companies (art. 21.10 and 21.11). Confirmed i changes to the number of elements of the power unit usable in relation to the new number of races to be played (art.23.3) and the ban on aerodynamic development on 2022 cars for the whole of 2020 (starting from Saturday 28 March). Ok definitive to postponement to 2022 of the regulatory revolution scheduled for 2021. Again with a view to reducing costs, new measures will be introduced to freeze some components, after discussions with the teams.

A novelty, compared to what has emerged in recent weeks: the DAS will not be allowed in regulation 2021, respecting what was originally defined in article 10.4.2. All this despite the ‘sliding’ of a season of new rules. These changes have already received the go-ahead from the participating teams.
