Preparing to return to routine: Hundreds of thousands of parents are eagerly awaiting news of the lifting of restrictions on the education system and now it seems that the Treasury, the Health and the National Security Headquarters are demanding complete freedom of abolition. This contrasts with the position of Rabbi Rafi Peretz, who opposes the abolition and insists that the studies be held in full in July, while August will be devoted to freedom and preparation for the next school year.

According to Education Minister Peretz, the outline proposed by his ministry that the school will be held in July is best because so far only two and a half weeks of schooling have been canceled. Whereas full abolition of the great freedom would result in the schools operating for a longer period than in a routine school year.

A special committee of the National Security Office released its recommendations yesterday on how Israel should emerge from the crisis, and recommended, among other things, the abolition of great freedom. The Committee on Education also recommended that students be returned to the education system in a gradual manner – to begin returning to preschool routines, then grades 1-2, and so on.

“The great freedom of the current year must now be taken away in order to complete educational gaps and, in particular, to increase the output of the economy during the summer months,” the commission’s report said. The idea of the unusual step is to allow the students’ parents to go to work without having to worry about the children’s employment in freedom.

The committee also recommended, under the section “The economic aspect of the exit strategy,” to bring students back to normal. “The return of students to school should be graded. Nursery and first and second grades should be started, which are the most important year in which to enable parental work,” it said. “Precise guidelines for educational institutions must be established to mitigate the risk: tests to credit the educating staff, staying in classrooms during breaks, splitting and significantly reducing classrooms (there are enough classrooms that upper classrooms are disabled) and the like.”

In this section, the Committee emphasized that the principle of gradualism is important, and the recommendations of the Committee to return to routine should be adopted only to the extent that the rate of infection decreases:
