The candidacy of Sylvie Goulard widely rejected: the Elysee denounces "a political game"

TheElysee said Thursday, after the rejection by Parliament of the candidacy of Sylvie Goulard to the European Commission, that the candidate of France had "been the subject of a political game that affects the European Commission as a whole."

"The president will exchange with (the president of the Commission) Ursula von der Leyen to examine the follow-up, in the respect of the portfolio attributed to France," adds the French presidency.

"I take note of the decision of the European Parliament, with respect for democracy. I thank the President of the Republic and Ursula von der Leyen (editor's note: the future President of the European Commission) for their confidence and all the deputies who voted for me, "Goulard wrote in a message published on his twitter account.
