After the storm of the Ghosn affair, we thought Renault was off to a good start thanks to a new management in January. Former boss of Michelin, Jean-Dominique Senard has been appointed president. The general direction returned to Thierry Bolloré. But, according to Le Figaro, the latter would be on the hot seat!
According to the newspaper, relations are not good between Senard and Bolloré. This was not settled by a very turbulent year, marked notably by the failed merger with Fiat-Chrysler. The very stormy relations with Nissan within the Alliance are also involved.
The Japanese manufacturer is starting a new beginning with the arrival of a new pair of bosses, with two personalities favorable to the Alliance, which is a victory for Jean-Dominique Senard. Makoto Uchida, new general manager, and Ashwani Gupta, director of operations, take over from Hiroto Saikawa, who was powered by Ghosn at the helm of Nissan.
The will is to turn the Ghosn page at Nissan … and therefore at Renault too! Thierry Bolloré was indeed appointed by Ghosn Deputy General Manager in 2018 and placed himself as his successor. Bolloré had also made the interim this winter before the arrival of Jean-Dominique Senard. Pushing him to the exit is also a gesture of appeasing Senard towards the Japanese, who wanted Ghosn's relatives to fall also to Renault.
The French state, Renault's largest shareholder, had also asked Senard to change the management of the Losange and would have judged that he would have delayed in getting there. Renault is therefore looking for a new CEO. According to Le Figaro, a cabinet of headhunters should be involved. The brand would look for an outside personality, but it should be a Frenchman who already has a good experience in the field.
