Different varieties of apples have been recalled by the market for the possible Listeria contamination. The alert for the moment concerns the United States and it is the work of the company North Bay Produce, based in Michigan. Specifically, the company explained, by press release, that "Fresh apples from Michigan have been distributed in eight states they are part of the recall because they are potentially contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes bacteria ”.

The varieties mentioned include the McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious apples. The apples were sold in plastic bags with these brands: Great Lakes, North Bay Producue Pure Michigan, as well as unbranded in transparent plastic bags, white paper bags and individually by retailers. Apples they were sent from 16 to 21 October to wholesalers, retailers and brokers in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

The recall occurred following analytical tests on the product that showed the presence of these bacteria in the finished product. A complete list of the apples involved along with descriptions and photos has been published on www.northbayproduce.com/recall. The advice, if you have recalled products, is not to consume them but to return them.

Although at the moment the call does not affect the Italian market, many of our compatriots reside in the United States and as many those who travel there for work or leisure, so it is good to be aware of such references.
