The German manufacturer tries to turn the page of the last four years with a new image and with the intention of "leading" the new technologies

<p>Four years after the dieselgate exploded, Volkswagen AG tries to close the emission crisis that cost a lot of its dome and billions of euros in sanctions around the world.
The German manufacturer presented this Monday at the Frankfurt motor show a new image that hides the challenge of becoming the world leader in electric cars. To begin with, the new Id.3, a vehicle that will begin to be produced next November in Zwickau (Germany).
Herbert Diess, CEO of the conglomerate – which also includes Seat, Audi, Skoda and Porsche – explained that the car represents the image of the new Volkswagen, which aims to be neutral in carbon emissions in 2050. All ranges of the Compact, very similar to Seat el Born in terms of design, will be available from 2020 for less than 30,000 euros. "The idea is to be able to manufacture electricity for less than 20,000 euros," he added.
Tourism is the spearhead of an offensive that will consist of 70 models in the next decade distributed among the different brands. "There is no traditional manufacturer that makes a bet as determined as ours," Diess challenged, according to Digital Economy.
Volkswagen vehicles will be headed by a new, finer "and digital" logo, according to those responsible. As it could not be otherwise in an iconic image, the change was preceded by more lights and special effects than are finally palpable in the emblem, which keeps the V and W unchanged within a circle.
"It is the result of four years of work," they explained from the brand. A turn that began after discovering the manipulation of carbon dioxide emissions from their diesel vehicles. "The new brand design is the beginning of a new era," settled Jürgen Stackmann, director of marketing and sales at Volkswagen.
But the dome of the German manufacturer does not want to give the paradigm shift only. "Electric is an opportunity for Germany and for all of Europe," Diess said. Therefore, he asked the institutions for help in creating the necessary infrastructure as well as tax incentives for producers.
Already in the last presentation of results, Diess appealed to the authorities: "The electric car works, it needs incentives from governments and investments in infrastructure, but it works."
At the moment, it is not foreseen that the manufacture of electricity falls to Spain. Seat will start making plug-in hybrids this year in Martorell with the new generation of the Seat Leon and in 2020 it will start with the Cupra Formentor. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen plant in Navarra could aim for zero-emission cars if the German brand wants to launch a zero-emission version of the Volkswagen Polo.
